Different types of Forklift Trucks

There are many different types of forklift trucks, each of which serves a particular purpose and need of the operator.

You will need a forklift certificate for each truck you intend to drive i.e. if you have a certificate for one type of truck it does not mean you can operate another type.

Here’s a list of the most common types of forklift trucks:

Counterbalance
Also called standard truck are widely used in various environments including warehouses and storage depots shifting stock on pallets lifting weights up to 3,000 – 4,000 pounds their reach can go as high as twenty feet.


Reach Trucks
These trucks are specifically designed for pallet storage and working in narrow isles of warehouses. They allow drivers to pick up a loads and then retract them over the outriggers. They can reach heights of up to 40 feet.


Telescopic Trucks
Telescopic trucks are for heavy duty work and can handle difficult terrain, they are used in the construction industry, agriculture and anywhere where they need a robust forklift truck.


Ride on Pallet Trucks
Motorized Pallet Truck: Used to shift stock around warehouses over longer distances. With the rider version, operators stand on a small platform.


Pedestrian Stacker
Are usually used in warehouse environments shifting stock on pallets.
