The Approximate time to complete an forklift course will vary depending on your previous experience if any and your course provider. If you have no experience in operating forklifts then you would most likely take the novice course which would usually last 5 days.

If you renewing your certificate then you would most likely take the one day refresher course.

The training aims to enable you to operate a forklift safely, including stacking and un stacking loads at different heights, maneuvering a loaded forklift in confined spaces, carrying out equipment checks.

Choosing the right Forklift Course

There are four different forklift training courses available to you:

  • Novice | you would have no previous experience on forklifts | duration: 5 days
  • Semi Experienced | have experience on forklifts but never been certified
  • Conversion | are certified on one type of forklift and want to be certified for a different type
  • Refresher | already certified but you need to renew your certificate | duration: 1 day

There are many different types of forklift trucks: Reach, Double Reach, Counterbalance, Stackers, Pivot Steer, Telescopic and many more.

Forklift Operator's can earn:

  • Starting around £13,000 - £20,000 per year
  • £20,000+ per year or more with experience

Hours Worked

  • up to 39 -45 per week Monday to Friday

You may be required to work shift patterns and overtime at weekends and evenings are common.

Work Environment
Due to the nature of this job you could be working inside or outside depending on the place of work.

You will need to have a responsible attitude to your work and an awareness of health and safety.
