Forklift Truck Certificate

Although you do not need any academic qualifications to operate a forklift truck in the UK you must be at least 16 years of age and successfully complete an approved forklift training course in order to be given you forklift certificate.

The training will last from one to 5 days depending on your previous experience.

The following are government approved forklift training providers

Make sure that your course is approved by one the the following body's:

  • ConstructionSkills
  • Association of Industrial Truck Trainers
  • Lantra Awards
  • National Plant Operators Registration Scheme
  • Independent Training Standards Scheme and Register (ITSSAR)
  • Road Transport Industry Training Board (RTITB)

Your certificate will usually need to be renewed every two years, although this is subject to the Health and Safety Executive, Insurance Policy's or individual firms policy's.

Forklift Operator Job Profile


Forklift Operator's can earn:

  • Starting around £13,000 - £20,000 per year

  • £20,000+ per year
    or more with experience

Hours Worked

  • up to 39 -45 per week Monday to Friday

You may be required to work shift patterns and overtime at weekends and evenings are common.

Work Environment
Due to the nature of this job you could be working inside or outside depending on the place of work.
